Community and events

As the Secretary of Art in Motion ASBL and an active member of KnowEdge ASBL, I work alongside close friends and colleagues to cultivate community-oriented spaces. Dance thrives when it is shared, which is why a central part of our practice involves organizing events, battles, educational programs, and panel discussions that bring people together, spark dialogue, and celebrate culture.

The Block Party

Now having successfully hosted four editions at Rotondes, the Block Party is a core event of our annual calendar. While the main event is a massive, multi-disciplinary festival uniting dancers, rappers, DJs, graffiti artists, and beatboxers, the true impact of the project happens in the months leading up to it.

The Block Party is an ongoing, community-building process that includes:

Pre-Event Workshops & Rap Coachings

Weeks before the festival, we run intensive artistic development programs. This includes specialized rap and performance coaching sessions with established artists like Taipan, giving emerging local talent the tools, feedback, and confidence to step onto a professional stage.

Battles

Built to give local and regional dancers a platform to test their skills, exchange style, and connect with the wider scene.

The Parvis & Market

A free daytime hub on the main day featuring local businesses, independent associations, music collectives, and local food stands, keeping the culture entirely accessible to the public.

Block Party Games

Our interactive, participative performance in the Black Box where dancers, MCs, and beatboxers are thrown into spontaneous improvisation challenges.

Conferences

A dedicated space for community reflection. We host crucial, open roundtables to debate the realities of our culture—such as addressing the post-Hamilius training space shortage for hip hop dancers or analyzing the evolution of the local music scene.

Concerts

An evening program at the Klub uniting international headliners with talent from our local scene. True to the multidisciplinary spirit of the festival, these live shows integrate dance performances and live graffiti creations right on stage.

Community Gatherings & Open Sessions

Beyond our main annual festival, we regularly create consistent spaces for dancers to connect. Together with Leyti – waacking dancer – we facilitate the Knowedge ASBL Open Floor Funk and Disco, providing an inclusive, welcoming environment for dancers of all levels to session, share, and exchange without the pressure of competition. I also collaborate closely with Rotondes on the Hip Hop Marathon, an initiative that introduces hip hop culture to high schools and wider audiences.

Workshops & Educational Outreach

Together with Art in Motion, we develop programs for a wide range of ages. This includes introducing young children to dance at the Kannerfest, running an intensive training at the AIM Dance Camp, and leading both short-term and ongoing creative projects within primary schools and high schools. We also love bringing dance directly into public spaces through active initiatives like Step In, targeting senior dance amateurs, and Nuit du Sport, making dance accessible to everyone.

Battles & Local Action

Battles serve as a platform for self-expression, respect, and community connection. With Art in Motion, we organize and support battle formats across the region, partnering with local youth centers like the Maison de Jeunes Neudorf and bringing community battles to Schifflange, for example, to give local and neighbouring dancers a space to test their skills and share their energy.

In addition to our festival conferences, Art in Motion hosts focused discussions and forums to address crucial topics within our community. These have included essential sessions on injury prevention with a physiotherapist to promote physical longevity, as well as dedicated roundtables on dance career insights, pushing for a more sustainable and equitable future for our artists.
